Gas Safety

Regulation 35 of Gas Safety Regulations requires employers to ensure that gas appliances, flues, pipe work and safety devices are maintained in a safe condition. They should be inspected by a competent person in accordance with current industry practice.

Periods between inspections may vary depending on the equipment and its use and should follow manufacturer’s recommendations, but as general rule annual inspections will be a reasonable minimum frequency.

Maintenance Priorities in Catering

Poor standards of maintenance are a major underlying cause of accidents in the catering industry. Including accidents that occur during maintenance work itself and cleaning, nearly two-thirds of accidents investigated in catering stem from maintenance in one way or another.

In some cases the problem is a lack of any maintenance at all. All these accidents can be very costly, both in financial terms as well as in pain and suffering. Most accidents resulting from poor maintenance involve equipment, but maintenance of the fabric of the building is also involved.

Established in Cardiff in 1967, CKM has been around for many years now. Since our establishment, we have succeeded in progressing from our relatively small beginnings, applying ourselves only as far as the boundaries of south Wales, to our larger, more substantial current state. In that time, we have become a nationally respected company, trusted by many to take on commercial catering jobs of all sizes, anywhere in the UK.

In the Beginning...

In our early years, as today, CKM gained most of its trade carrying out engineering work for local authorities, hotels, pubs and clubs, as well as being service agents for major manufacturers, with its work largely associated with installation, maintenance and repair of catering equipment.

The Company Expands...

In the 20 years which followed, little changed in the sense of the way the business was applying itself. That was until in 1988, the decision was made for the company to expand. With that in mind, a second service depot was established in Narbeth (West Wales).

The context of work did not change though. As today, Engineering was the company's work base. However, in 1991, this all changed when again expansion was the key idea. Sales departments were opened at Cardiff, and at the relatively new site at Narbeth, selling anything from cutlery to tables and chairs. As can be seen below in a picture of the Cardiff Showroom, these were on site displays which customers were able to come and use as easy as a local supermarket. With a wide range of goods being kept on sight, people were able to come and walk away with the items they required rather than having to wait the delivery period. The offering of free delivery on larger items also helped to make these show rooms the success which they are today.

And Now...

Nowadays, CKM is a highly regarded company in the South and West. Work still centres around the engineering work which has taken us so far, but equally our sales departments are as much a part of our successful trade, and although we have our regular customers, satisfied with our service and competitive prices for many years now, we are still looking for new customers.

So if your business requires equipment for your kitchen, repairs on equipment you already have, or you are looking for everything you need to open a restaurant, look no further that CKM - The complete one stop shop for all your commercial kitchen needs.CKM New Offices
